Itinerary of the 4 Day Marrakech to Merzouga tour
This trip starts with a pick up from your hotel or Ryad in Marrakech. For that purpose, 4x4 air-conditioned cars and comfortable vans will be provided. The destination is the UNESCO-world Heritage site, the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou. In this Kasbah, you will have a chance to wander through the alleys of traditional buildings in order to immerse yourself into the cultural and architectural aspects of this majestic site.
After such a wonderful journey in the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, we will have a stop in Ouarzazate to take a break and have lunch. The next step is a short drive to the Skoura Oasis which is famous for its majestic oases and the Kasbah of Amridil. In this visit, you will be accompanied by a local guide who will walk you through the wonderful buildings and oases of Skoura and answer all your questions about the region and its history.
Having explored all the wonders of the Skoura Oasis, it is time to move to Boumalne Dades through the Valley of Roses where you can explore the process of distilling rose water and making cosmetic and perfumery products by cooperatives run by local ladies.
We can also take you to the Dades Canyons to have the opportunity to take some breathtaking photos.
You will have dinner and spend the night in a lodge in the Dades Valley.
After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we will drive to the oasis town of Tinguir through the 1001 Kasbas Road. This town is a charming town thanks to its oases, riverbanks and the famous Todra Gorges. So, you can wander through the Tinghir Oasis in order to explore and enjoy the mesmerizing natural scenes. One of the famous scenes is the Massive breathtaking Todra Gorges where we can have lunch and rest.
In the afternoon, our next step is Erfoud, which is famous for dates production and fossilized marble. Erfoud is only 25 minutes’ drive away from Rissani. Rissani is the cradle of the Alaouite Dynasty that rules Morocco, and it is famous for its local traditional market and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif, the founder of the Alaouite Dynasty.
After our visit to Rissani, it is time to move to the gate of the Moroccan Sahara Desert, the famous town of Merzouga. In Merzouga, you will find a caravan of camels and a group of experienced and knowledgeable camel guides who will serve at your pleasure. So, the camel ride will take you through the Erg Chebbi Dunes at sunset time in order to witness the sunset and reach the Sahara Desert camp. In the desert camp, you will have dinner while enjoying the local Nomad Music. Then, you can spend the night in the middle of the desert under the starlit clear sky.
In the early Morning of your desert camp night stay, be ready for a sunrise camel ride to witness the beautiful and charming sunrise.
After arriving to the town of Merzouga from the desert camp, vans and cars will be waiting for you in order to take you to your next destination.
The destination takes you across the Anti-Atlas Mountains to the village of Nkob in the Valley of Draa where many mud-brick villages are all over the road. After that, you will reach the village of Agdz, which means a resting place in the Berber language, as it was a resting place for ancient camel caravans.
Our final destination of day 3 will be in Ouarzazate in order to spend the night after a tiring and worthy day of exploration and travel.
The next step after having breakfast will be the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou. This UNESCO world heritage site is famous for its majestic and ancient buildings. It was also a production site for many Hollywood successful films such as Gladiator.
The Kasbah of Telouet is also worth-visiting. It is located in the former caravan road crossing the High Atlas Mountains towards the Sahara Desert. The Kasbah Telouet is our final destination of this tour. So, we will take you back and drop you off in Marrakech.

Must-know Before You Go:
- The prices of the tour are per person and they depend on the number of persons.
- The time of the drives does not include stops for breaks, lunches, coffee breaks etc.
- A 4×4 car can seat up to 4 adult passengers comfortably. In case the number is more than 4 persons, a comfortable van will be provided.
- The fees of local guides and entrance are not included in the price of the tour. However, they are paid directly to the suppliers.
- Flexibility of pick-up times is offered. However, it is advisable to start between 07h30 and 08h00 AM.
- Sandboard are available in the desert camp. All you need is to ask for them and take them with you to the desert camp.
4 Days Marrakech Desert Tour FAQs
The distance covered is 560 kilometers (348 miles) which takes between 9 to 12 hours depending on stops and road traffic.
You can choose to access the Sahara luxury desert camp by a 4×4 car with no extra fees.
This depends on the type of camp you booked for reservation. In standard desert camps, bathrooms are shared and they are located outside the tents. However, if you upgrade to luxury desert camps, you will have your own bathroom inside your tent which insures your privacy.
It is approximately one hour for sunset and one hour for sunrise in the following day. However, the time depends on the season of the year.
Many quad and buggy operators are available in Merzouga. They provide high quality quads and buggies at reasonable prices. They also offer you a local guide at 50 Euros per quad per hour. You can pay the rent directly to the quad operator.
Electricity outlets are available in Merzouga desert camp in public areas such as restaurants and camp courtyards. But you have to bear in mind that generators are turned off at midnight.
