The Best 5-day Marrakech Desert Tour to Merzouga

Our 5-day Marrakech desert tour to Merzouga starts when your driver tour guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Marrakech or Airport. The best thing will be to try and get out from Marrakech as early as possible at 8.00 AM so that the day is utilized the best. In fact, the driving distance up to Dades Valley takes approximately 6-7 hours.

The first destination, will be the Tizi n'Tichka Pass: Stop for a short break and photo session at Tizi n'Tichka, a high mountain pass in the Atlas Mountains. It will be the apt place to catch dramatic views of the surrounding peaks and valleys.

Midday: Aït Ben Haddou: Continue with driving, stop, and visit this UNESCO World Heritage Site, a fortified city called Aït Ben haddou; it is known for its mud-brick construction. It is also among the shooting locations of film blockbusters such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Take a visit to this ksar with its towers, it will take about 45 minutes to an hour.

Afternoon: Lunch Time, take this time for lunch, trying typical Moroccan cuisine in one of the many restaurants on the route.

Continue with your tour through the valleys until you reach Dades late this afternoon. The Dades Valley is one of the most beautiful valleys of this area, very famous for its landscapes and rock formations called "the monkey fingers."

Check-in at Dades Valley hotel/riad. Take your time to relax. Dinner typical Moroccan dinner will be provided at the accommodation.

After Breakfast, then check out from the accommodation for a drive to Merzouga. This will take approximately 5-6 hours.

Drive through the Todra Gorge. The chasm rises as high as 300 meters, 980 feet. A slight walk might be done inside the canyon and take some photo time of that amazing scenery.

Lunch will be in Erfoud-a town of fossils. If time permits, you will have the chance to visit a local workshop of fossils.

In the Afternoon, you would arrive in the small town of Merzouga, lying on the edge of Erg Chebbi dunes-the greatest sand dunes system in Morocco.

Meet your camel guide and prepare yourself for your desert experience. Go forward for your 2 nights camel trek into the Sahara with awaiting camels.

Get on your camel and set off into a ride to the desert. Your camel ride will go across rolling sand dunes of Erg Chebbi on the way to your desert camp. Just in time, you'll reach your desert camp with enough time to see the sunset in the desert.

A typical Moroccan dinner will be served at the camp tonight. Then, it will be the time of relaxing at the campfire, which will feature Berber music under the star-lit sky. Overnight: At Desert camp Merzouga in a Berber-style luxury tent.

Early rise to view the most spectacular start of sunrise over the sand dunes. The magic experience is that the golden dunes change color at the rise of the sun.

Day starts at camp after sunrise with a light breakfast and starts our Desert Exploration: This will be an all-day activity behind a camel, riding over the dunes of the desert. It would be possible through the tour guide to show your way through the dunes to some of the Berber villages and Nomadic camps. You can try learning about desert life, the traditional custom the Berber people come from.

Picnic Lunch: A picnic lunch against the backdrop of the desert for a break and soaking in the tranquility of surroundings. Afternoon at leisure or, for the energetic, sandboarding or a short 4x4 drive deeper into the dunes for further exploration.

Later in the afternoon, you will be taken for a drive back to your desert camp for a second night of camping under the stars.
Evening Traditional Dinner: Once more, another delicious Moroccan meal will be served; then, similar to the previous day, more Berber music around the campfire. Overnight stay in the Same Desert Camp in Merzouga.  

You will have breakfast and ride your camels back to Merzouga where your driver will be waiting for you to continue your 5 day Marrakech desert trip.

The first destination will be Rissani: This is a small town located in the southeast, which you will be leaving Merzouga to go out and has traditional markets known as Souks. If this happened to be a market day, then you could witness the buzzing sensation going on here and buy whatever local products you may want.

The drive would take you through deserts and small towns of the remote deserts to Ouarzazate. Further on, your drive would take you across small deserts and remote towns that you would find at different distances. Lunch in the town of Agdz and we will continue our journey to Ouarzazate through the Draa Valley. Late afternoon arrival in Ouarzazate.

Check-in to your Ouarzazate hotel or riad. Quiet evening meandering around this "desert gateway" town with its film studios and kasbahs.

The final day of our 5 day Desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga stars with a drive to Marrakech after having your breakfast. The drive will take almost 4-5 hours. The road will take you across the Atlas Mountains, Ounila Valley and Telouet Kasbah for the last mountain scenery sightseeing.

Drive back and reach Marrakech this afternoon or early evening where our adventure of five days desert tour from Marrakech will finish.
